Get Funding for Your Classroom Project! If you are a fan of the Teaching Resources Facebook page, you'll know that every Sunday for the past six months I've hosted a special event called DonorsChoose Day. DonorsChoose.org is a nonprofit organization that helps teachers get funding for their projects, and each Sunday I put out a call for proposals. Teachers post links to their current DC projects for me to review. Then on Monday morning I'll choose one and either complete the funding or donate $100 to help out. If this is the first time you've heard about DonorsChoose Sunday, please read the complete blog post I wrote about it back in July.
I love DonorsChoose, but unfortunately, it's only open to public schools, and there are many private schools that have a need for funding, too. I have discovered two other nonprofit organizations that help teachers get funding and that are not restricted to public schools: AdoptaClassroom.org and Digital Wish. Because of this, I've revised my original program to allow teachers to submit project links that go to other nonprofit organizations for teachers. I asked Facebook fans to help me come up with a name for this new initiative, and amazingly Natasha Norris and Priscilla Milam BOTH came up with the name Fund-day Sunday. Within moments of me posting my request, they both got hit with inspiration and posted the name at almost the same time! That has to be a sign, don't you think? : )
How to Participate
If you have a project proposal online with one of these organizations, begin by visiting my Teaching Resources Facebook page and clicking the Like button to follow it. Then check back each Sunday morning because I'll announce the Fund-day Sunday request at 8 a.m. EST. At that time, you can post ONE link to a project proposal along with a short description of what you hope to accomplish and why it's important to you. Please don't post your requests directly on the Wall or they will get lost. Also, pin this blog post and share my request for proposals with your friends to encourage them to participate, too.
I'm excited to start Fund-day Sunday today! When I was in the classroom, I received thousands of dollars of funding from DonorsChoose, and it meant so much to receive that kind of support. Now that I'm no longer teaching, I love being able to help dedicated classroom teachers who give so much of themselves. I applaud all of you for the difference you are making in your students' lives!
